Through our partnership with YICE, Sundara ran a hygiene and sanitation program for 40 community members in Mubende district, Uganda. Topics discussed included:
- Sanitation inside the house
- Oral hygiene for children
- Regular bathing
- Most important times in the day to wash hands
During the session, community members were given chance to share their experiences and ask questions.
One woman in particular expressed that she had not used soap at her home for the last two weeks, she only uses water for bathing and cleaning utensils and she never washed her hands after visiting a toilet!
Though seemingly basic knowledge, we realize that the need for this training is huge. By running sessions like this we can effectively open the community’s eyes to the importance of basic health and hygiene. Through our partner YICE, extensive efforts to follow up with this community will be made, making sure that they maintain the good hygiene practices they are learning.
In other Uganda news, we distributed soap deliveries to 46 households and built drying racks for eating utensils for 4 families in need.
We can’t wait to give you more updates as we continue to make this community healthier. Thank you for your attention and support.
