Junior Bakasa is the Founder of OV Products, a detergent manufacturing initiative that supports underserved communities in urban and rural Zimbabwe to have improved access to hygiene products. Her project tackles water, sanitation and hygiene issues. Through her initiative, she aspires to sustainably alleviate hygiene poverty in her country and empower marginalized women by including them in her manufacturing and distribution processes.
In Zimbabwe, roughly 74% of the population lives on less than $5.50 a day, below the poverty line, for this population hygiene becomes a luxury, as families have to decide between putting food on the table or addressing water, sanitation and hygiene issues. OV Products works to solve this problem by manufacturing and selling hygiene products at factory prices to the community. This will provide an alternative solution to expensive products that are found on the market and in turn reduce the illness and death caused by water, sanitation and hygiene issues.
